The local arm of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense is hosting a special benefit concert Sunday, Sept. 25 to remember the victims of America’s gun violence epidemic.

Singer-songwriter Erin O’Hara will perform at 7 p.m. at the Treehouse Café, with speakers from the Alliance for Gun Responsibility, the show’s beneficiary, to follow.

O’Hara has shared the stage with many gifted musicians, including Billy Bragg, Mavis Staples and Eileen Ivers. She has also created original scores for a number of award-winning documentaries, including the Emmy nominated “In the Family” and “Sicko,” Michael Moore’s Oscar-nominated film about the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries.

Part of the Concert Across America series, the event aims to bring awareness to the more than 30,000 gun deaths that take place annually in the United States. Musicians are scheduled to perform at 200 venues across the country in an effort spearheaded by the Boston-based group Stop Handgun Violence.

Donations benefit the Alliance’s efforts to change state laws and policy. Its latest offering, Initiative 1491, will appear on the November ballot. If passed, it will create Extreme Risk Protection Orders, giving families the means to remove firearms from a relative in crisis.
