MLK event Jan. 13 on BI

The legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated at the “Move & Be Moved” Social Justice Social Jan. 13 from 6-9 p.m. at Bainbridge Island Museum of Art, 550 Winslow Way E.

The free event gathers the community for a night of sharing resources, strategy, camaraderie and joy, all in service of realizing King’s vision of a beloved community striving for justice.

The event will fill the first floor of BIMA. Groups will offer information about their social justice endeavors. Interactive elements will offer fun ways for attendees to explore and connect. Smaller “living room” conversation spaces will invite deeper discussion.

Music and an open floor will encourage dancing. Food will be available in a covered area of the open-air courtyard.

Drinks and cookies will be free, but Aunt Dolly’s West African Marketplace will offer food for purchase. COVID masks are strongly recommended indoors, and free masks will be offered at the door.

Details on MLK weekend events at BIMA can be found at www.facebook.com/MLKdayBainbridgeIsland/

The event is being put on by the Kitsap Equity, Race And Community Engagement Coalition and others.

Another celebration will take place Jan. 15 from 3-5 p.m. Called “Intersection of Culture, Identity & The Dream,” it will include art, performances and recommitting to King’s vision.
