Candidates for the Bainbridge Island School Board have submitted candidate statements for Kitsap County’s voters’s pamplet.

Dale Perry is seeking the Position 2 seat on the Bainbridge Island School Board. His opponent is Mike Spence.

Dale Perry

Biography: Father of three children in BISD, host parent of exchange student. Volunteer math tutor at Ordway. Born and raised in Pacific Northwest; attended public schools in Washington and Idaho. Graduate of Dartmouth College with an AB in Engineering Sciences and Russian Language. Six years in the Navy as a submarine officer. Private sector career as a nuclear engineer, entrepreneur working with Governments of US and Russia in the Arctic, development director for Kenyan private engineering institute, banker in Africa, utility executive in Central Asia, South America, Africa, Central Europe and Caucuses. Non-profit and corporate board experience, including Bainbridge Schools Foundation.

Statement: First challenger for Board position in 12 years. My firsthand appreciation for value of STEM education, foreign language acquisition and working in the global workplace can help create a collaborative vision for our District’s future.

Our district has strong teachers, good facilities and a supportive community, demonstrated by active participation and continued financial support. With transparency of BISD operations and active oversight, we can collaboratively articulate an inspiring vision of our District’s future, alleviating fears and misunderstandings as the district transitions through important structural changes.

We are challenged to address, equitably, the concerns of all our community’s stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, and taxpayers. A positive, shared vision of the future can inspire greater community involvement and giving of resources, leading to a flywheel effect of momentum. Important elements of my thinking come from having applied the practices Jim Collins describes in his book, Good to Great.

I have successfully employed his concepts in several overseas positions and envision how they can be used in our district.

By offering voters greater access to their elected representatives and with improved transparency and oversight, I look forward to ensuring increased civic engagement, making our district the best it can be.
