Magdalene Confrey, a 24-year-resident of Bainbridge Island, died peacefully Nov. 5, 2014 in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Madge was born in Sharon, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Dominic and Rose Santell.

She was a loving mother to her daughters Lyle Confrey Kahle (Tony Gabriel) and Jere Confrey (Alan Maloney) and grandmother to Brian (Liz) Mazzarella, Kate (Mark) Tindall, Nissa Kahle, Nowell Kahle (Elizabeth) and Tyler Maloney. She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Eugene Confrey; sister Jacqueline (Pete) Fulcher; and half brothers Dominic and William Santell.

During her life she was a teacher and continued to teach her family throughout her life. She spent many hours pursuing her passion as an artist and sculptor. She loved many forms of creativity — from gourmet cooking to poetry to opera — and this enthusiasm influenced all of her grandchildren. She participated actively in their lives and will be missed.
