LTAC needs new member

The city of Bainbridge Island is looking for a volunteer to serve on its Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC).

Applicants must be a representative from a Bainbridge Island business that collects lodging taxes. The deadline for eligible individuals to apply is Friday, Aug. 17.

The Lodging Tax Advisory committee is responsible for recommending awards from the city’s Civic Improvement Fund, a fund created through a state tax on overnight stays in lodging establishments (hotels, motels and bed-and-breakfasts). The funds can be used to support projects to promote tourism, for event operations or marketing, or for operating expenses for tourism facilities owned by nonprofits.

For the upcoming 2019 award cycle, the LTAC will help to provide city support in the amount of $260,000 for local projects. A list of past projects is available on the city’s website.

Volunteers on LTAC will review funding proposals and recommend award allocations. LTAC participants should expect to meet four to six times from August to November.
