Local Jewish community rally in prayer for Israel

In the wake of the attack on Israel by Hamas on Oct. 7 the Jewish community of Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County gathered at Waterfront Park for a unity and prayer rally at dusk Oct 12 to show solidarity with the people of Israel.

“The sheer magnitude of the death, torture and kidnapping of Jews is agonizing,” said Rabbi Mendy Goldshmid, director of the Chabad Jewish Center of BI. “We, in Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap, stand firm with our brothers and sisters in Israel and extend our heartfelt prayers and support.”

Rabbi Dario Feiguin from Congregation Kol Shalom on BI co-led the vigil.

The rally featured readings in memory of the perished, to heal the wounded, for the safe return of the hostages and for the success of the Israel Defense Forces to secure and defend Israel.

“We must remember that by illuminating our own corner of the world with acts of goodness and kindness, we can impact events on the other side of the world, and soon usher in an era of global peace with the final redemption,” Goldshmid said.

Meanwhile, Congregation Beth Hatikvah in Bremerton also planned A Vigil For Israel: In Support, Solidarity & Hope Tuesday.

Also, at least one religious school in Silverdale was said to be closed Oct. 13 due to Muslim extremist threats worldwide.
