IslandWood presents “Weaving with Cattails” from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 9.

Weaving has been an important part of the Native American culture for many generations. Wild grasses, tree bark and plants have been used to create beautiful and functional mats, baskets, cordage and other objects for everyday use. Come experience the rare opportunity to view and hold beautiful century-old baskets from IslandWood’s native basket collection in the Great Hall, and discover their designs and cultural uses.

Then, head over to the Art Studio where IslandWood artisans will share knowledge about harvesting and weaving with local natural materials. Learn weaving techniques with cattails and paper, and create two or more fun projects to take home.

The cost is $5/person.
