Female choked trying to stop energy drink thief
A 41-year-old Bremerton man was in Kitsap County Superior Court July 29 charged with robbery after trying to steal an energy drink.
He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine. Bail was $300,000.
Court documents say Bremerton police arrested the man July 28 at 1:15 p.m. at 40 Washington Ave. after he tried to steal an energy drink from a market and assaulted the female manager. She tried to take it from him, and an “energetic and violent” struggle ensued.
When arrested, the suspect claimed she attacked him. He also yelled racist and homophobic slurs at officers.
Escape by boat fails in residential robbery
Three men trying to steal items from a vacant house were caught; two as they tried to escape via a boat.
One of them, a 52-year-old Port Orchard man, was in Superior Court July 30 charged with residential burglary.
Another, a 21-year-old Bremerton man, and the third, a 52-year-old man, were charged with the same crime. They all face 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Court information says Kitsap deputies arrested the men July 29 at 8:50 a.m. at President Point Road NE in Kingston. A neighbor reported a boat was docked at a house that was supposed to be empty. The neighbor had her house broken into in the past.
Next to the boat was a kayak that had a wooden box containing gold silverware. A padlock on a chain-link fence at the driveway was broken. Two men were seen, and one was detained. The other was heard in the brush and when seen he took off for the beach. Suquamish police gave chase and caught him and another man as they tried to escape on the boat.
Some stolen jackets were found in the brush. Those, the silverware and kayak were all the homeowner’s, who now lives on Bainbridge Island.
5 attack man who tried to help woman
A 20-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 29 charged with robbery after he and four others beat up a man trying to help a woman being bothered by one of them.
He faces life in prison and a $50,000 fine. Bail was $100,000.
Court records say Bremerton police arrested the man July 28 at 1:20 a.m. in the 600 block of Callow Avenue. The reporting party said five people were attacking one man.
The victim said he was walking and saw a woman trying to get away from the suspect. When he intervened the suspect’s friends chased him down, and he was hit with a crowbar in the head. Once on the ground, he was punched and kicked. The suspects fled after realizing they were being filmed. They stole his shoes, cell phone, backpack, a carton of cigarettes and $72.
Officers caught one intoxicated participant, who is this suspect. A K9 track led to the arrest of another suspect, who was the primary aggressor in the attack.
Hit-and-run driver caught due to video
A 31-year-old Port Orchard man was in Superior Court Aug. 1 charged in a hit-and-run injury accident.
He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court information says Kitsap deputies responded April 17 at 4:02 p.m. to a car vs. motorcycle collision in the 9400 block of Bay Shore Drive NW in Silverdale. The car entered the road from a driveway without yielding the right of way.
The victim slid along the road until stopping with the motorcycle on top of him. The driver of the car fled, but pieces were left behind, including the license plate. But it ended up being for another vehicle that was destroyed and in a scrap yard. The victim was treated for fractures, abrasions and burns.
A video was obtained from a business. A still photo was taken and sent out on social media. A resident reported seeing the vehicle. It had been spray-painted hastily over windows, sunroof and headlights. Zip ties held up a bumper. The sheriff’s department got a tip that the driver was in jail.
Man escapes community custody
A 41-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court Aug. 1 charged with escaping community custody.
He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court records say that on Jan. 11, 2022 and April 6, 2023 the suspect was sentenced to prison. Upon his release, he was assigned to a community corrections officer. On July 1 this year he provided a urine sample that was positive for methamphetamine. He was to be arrested, but became homeless and could not be found.
Fail to register
A 35-year-old Bremerton man was in Superior Court July 29 arrested on a warrant from August of last year for failing to register as a sex offender.
Bail was $50,000. He faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
Court papers say the suspect was convicted Dec. 11, 2013 for commercial sex abuse of a minor. He was released in 2017, but was supposed to register at least until 2038 after committing crimes afterward. He was recently found and arrested on the warrant.
