James William “Bill” Minster passed away Dec. 29, 2015 at home in Ballard.

Bill was born Oct. 7, 1931 on Bainbridge Island to James and Phyllis Minster.

Bill’s career was as a Merchant Mariner. When not away at sea, much of his life was spent as a resident of Bainbridge Island. In 1974, he married Carolyn Sue Rickerson and moved to the Seattle area, settling in Ballard where they lived for more than 30 years. He was a caring and considerate husband and father to stepsons Bradley and Brian.

Bill enjoyed fishing, bargain hunting at garage sales, and spending time with family and friends — usually with his dog by his side.

Bill is survived by his wife Carolyn; stepsons Bradley Baller (Anna) and Brian Baller (Tina); brother Larry Minster; as well as many nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

He was laid to rest at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline on Jan. 11, 2016.
