J. David Belling, 80, of Bainbridge Island passed away on May 28, 2015. Dave was born on Jan.29, 1935 in Seattle to John C. and Dorothy E. (Knight) Belling of Bainbridge Island.

J. David Belling, 80, of Bainbridge Island passed away on May 28, 2015. Dave was born on Jan.29, 1935 in Seattle to John C. and Dorothy E. (Knight) Belling of Bainbridge Island.

A graduate of Bainbridge Island High School in 1953, Dave went on to attend the University of Washington.

He married Marjorie Oilphant on Sept. 18, 1954 in Winslow.

In keeping with his Norwegian heritage, Dave was a commercial fisherman, but after attending the University of Washington worked for the Washington State Department of Transportation and eventually retired as head of the materials lab for WSDOT.

He worked for the New Mexico Highway Department in Sante Fe for three years and returned to Bainbridge Island in 1990 where he worked for Trans Tec until this past fall.

He was a member of the Port Madison Lutheran Church and in his spare time, enjoyed fishing, hunting, clamming, and digging for sapphires, traveling, sports and music.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents; brother, James; and sister, Beverly. Dave’s memory will live on with his son, Bruce of Bainbridge; daughter, Susan Williams (Don) of Hansville; granddaughter, Lida Williams of Hansville; brother, Richard K. (Alma) of Poulsbo; and many beloved relatives and friends.

A memorial service was held at Port Madison Lutheran Church on Saturday, June 6.
