Toddler shots

Children as young as 6 months up to 5 years can now receive the COVID-19 vaccine on Bainbridge Island.

A clinic for that age group is taking place July 9 at the Commodore Options lower gym.

First dose appointments only are available for children in that age range. Appointments are open online at the Clinic Registration site at covidbi.timetap.com/#/.

The city, BI Fire Department, Bainbridge Prepares, BI Community Pharmacy, and the BI School District are putting on the event. For details go to: vaccinelocator.doh,wa.gov.

Commander changes

U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Benjamin Berg, a native of Bainbridge Island, recently ended his position as commanding officer of the Patrol Forces Southwest in Manama, Bahrain, the largest such base outside of the country.

Berg led the command that provides support to maritime security operations in the north, central and south Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Under his leadership, PATFORSWA saw the homeporting of four new 154-foot Sentinel-class Fast Response Cutters and decommissioning of five 110-foot Island-class patrol cutters.

Berg said, “I’m certainly pleased with the operational accomplishments of our cutters, crews, and partner nation engagements, but I was more energized each day to observe the crews taking pride knowing their work was bringing stability to the region and enforcing the rule of law.”

Adm. Linda Fagan, commandant, U.S. Coast Guard, presided over the ceremony, commending Berg for his leadership and welcoming Capt. Eric A. Helgen as the new commander.

Historic theatre

The Historic Lynwood Theatre is now offering tap beer, a glass of wine or a mug of cider during its shows.

Beers are from Bainbridge Brewing and wine from Eagle Harbor Winery and Eleven. Ciders are constantly changing, again keeping the producers as local as possible.

Also new is the official Historic Lynwood Theatre podcast, where they discuss “All Things Cinematic” from Hollywood to BI, a news release says. A podcast of comedian Dan Rosenberg is available, and Gov. Jay Inslee will be the guest July 5.

Art show

Photography by Pete Saloutos called “Exhibition for Ukraine” will be shown at Roby King Gallery on Winslow Way July 1-31.

Imagery includes figures, sports, landscapes, architecture, travel, underwater photos and more. Some proceeds to be donated to www.thekitchn.com to help in Ukraine. He also does a calendar each year for Seattle Cancer Care Alliance in which proceeds are donated.

An opening reception will be July 1 from 6-8 p.m. with a special reception with Saloutos July 9 at the same time.

Hours are noon to 5 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays, closing an hour earlier on Sundays.
