How much taxes will go up if school bond is approved | THE BAINBRIDGE BLAB

The bonds are coming!

The Bainbridge Island School Board voted last night to replace Blakely Elementary and the BHS 100 building with a $81.2 million bond, to be put before voters in February 2016.

What this means for you, if it passes: Someone with a home valued at $486,000 (the median value of a Bainbridge property) will pay $175 more in school taxes in 2017 (or 36 cents per every $1,000 of assessed value).

The bond proposal has been a long time coming.

And the school district’s capital projects staff has worked hard to nail down appropriate options to put before the community.

As Tamela VanWinkle, BISD’s Director for Capital Projects, shared at the Thursday’s school board session: “We’ve had about 86 meetings on what we’re talking about tonight” — and that’s not including those with architects, engineers and consultants.

Thanks to the school board and BISD staff for working so diligently to get a final proposal on the table.
