A high wind warning will remain in place for the Puget Sound area through 11 p.m. Sunday, March 13, according to the National Weather Service’s office in Seattle.

The National Weather Service said the storm sweeping through the region is moving faster and high winds are expected earlier than previously expected.

The strongest winds are expected in the Puget Sound region through the mid-afternoon.

Winds from the south to seatheast of 25 to 40 mph — with gusts up to 50 to 60 mph in the mid afternoon — are forecast.

Power outages and downed trees are likely, according to the National Weather Service.

Puget Sound Energy reported at 2:30 p.m. Sunday that roughly 40,000 customers had lost power by 2 p.m. PSE is opening its local storm bases to assist with outages.

PSE had limited information available Sunday afternoon on the location of outages; its online outage map was not functioning Sunday but the utility said technicians were working on the problem.

PSE also said crews may be delayed at restoring power in some areas due to high wind conditions.
