Hansen, Rolfes are unopposed in November

Two state lawmakers from Bainbridge Island will run for a new term in Olympia unopposed.

Candidate filing for the Nov. 8 general election closed May 20; 120 candidates filed for 32 offices.

In the 23rd Legislative District, state Sen. Christine Rolfes, D-Bainbridge Island, is unopposed for reelection. So is state Rep. Drew Hansen, D-Bainbridge Island, who will seek another term in the Position 2 seat for the 23rd District.

But state Rep. Sherry V. Appleton, D-Poulsbo, will be on the ballot with Loretta Byrnes, Republican, of Poulsbo; Jack Carroll, Democrat, of Port Gamble; and April Ferguson, Republican, a member of the Suquamish Citizens Advisory Council.

Byrnes, who ran unsuccessfully for North Kitsap School Board in 2015, initially announced she would challenge Hansen, but filed as a candidate for Appleton’s position.

The Primary Election is Aug. 2; the General Election is Nov. 8.

Rob Gelder is also running unopposed for the Kitsap County Board of Commissioners, representing North Kitsap.

Four North Kitsap residents are seeking election to Kitsap Public Utility District Board of Commissioners, Position 1: incumbent John Armstrong of Hansville, Rusty Grable of Keyport, Denise M. Ledingham of Poulsbo, and Debra Lester of Bainbridge Island.

All Kitsap County Superior Court judges are running unopposed except for one: Jeffrey P. Bassett of Bremerton, who was appointed by Gov. Jay Inslee when Judge Jay Roof retired earlier this year, is being challenged by Dale A. Magneson of Silverdale.

It will be a crowded race for governor again. Eleven candidates have filed for the position, including incumbent Gov. Inslee.

Joining the Bainbridge resident on the ballot are: Bill Hirt (Republican Party), Patrick O’Rourke (Democratic Party), David W. Blomstrom (Fifth Republic Party), Mary Martin (Socialist Worker Party), Steve Rubenstein (Independent Party), Bill Bryant (Republican), Goodspaceguy (Republican), Jonathan Dodds (Democratic), Christian Pierre Joubert (Holistic Party) and James Robert Deal (Democratic).
