Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

SEPTEMBER 2

6:14 a.m. Police responded to Wing Point Way apartment, where an intoxicated woman was banging on a door that the occupant refused to open. The woman, a Suquamish resident, said she had been partying with two men inside and wanted to get in to collect one of her shoes. Police contacted the resident of a neighboring apartment who said the woman had walked into his unlocked unit. He asked that she be removed from the premises. When police went back outside the woman was gone. She was later found walking down the driveway and had apparently been hiding in the woods. An officer told the woman that she could either be driven home without her shoe or arrested and booked into jail. The woman accepted a ride home to Suquamish.

3:23 p.m. An Arrow Point Drive resident reported that a mailbox and glass lantern fixture near the end of her driveway had been smashed overnight. The resident said the mailbox was a replacement for one that had been smashed a month before. She also reported that the tires of her car were deflated and she was unsure whether the air had been let out or if they were slashed. Damage to the mailbox and lantern was estimated at $55.

SEPTEMBER 3

1:23 p.m. A citizen turned in a single gold earring with three rows of what appeared to be small diamonds. The earring was found near a new development on Winslow Way west of Madison Avenue. The citizen filled out a claim form. The earring was placed in evidence.

1:40 p.m. Two speed bumps were reported stolen from a private road off Salmon Run Lane. Residents reported that they had returned from vacation to find two speed bumps missing. One was later found in their garbage can. The speed bumps were six-feet long with black and yellow stripes and had been secured to the roadway with rebar. The residents said one of their neighbors had made his displeasure with their speed bumps well known prior to their vacation, but weren’t sure if the neighbor was responsible for the theft. No suspects.

1:41 p.m. A Bainbridge woman reported having received harassing email from a participant of the Internet forum IslandMoms. The woman said she had posted a response in a discussion expressing her support for the Republican nominee for vice president. Her post included her private email address. She later received a response directed to her private email address from a woman who called her a racist and said “I would spit in your face if I ever got the chance to meet you.” The reporting woman was concerned that the emailer would attempt to confront her in public. The case was recorded.

SEPTEMBER 4

9:06 a.m. A High School Road resident reported that he had been assaulted by another man in the parking lot of his apartment complex following an argument over money. An officer contacted the man in the parking lot and noted that he had a bloody lip and scrapes on his arms. The man said he had confronted a former friend in the parking lot who he said owed him $600 for a painting job he had helped him with. He said the two argued briefly then the acquaintance threw him to the ground and punched him several times. The suspect had then been given a ride to the ferry by his girfriend. Neighbors gave police conflicting accounts of which man had started the fight. The investigation continues.

SEPTEMBER 5

6:45 p.m. An officer found a Jeep Cherokee partially parked in the eastbound lane of New Brooklyn Road east of Sportsman Club Road with its emergency flashers activated. The owner had left a sticky note on the windshield saying the vehicle had broken down and that the owner would be right back. The officer attempted to contact the owner several times without success. The vehicle was impounded.

SEPTEMBER 7

2:35 a.m. Officers responded to a possible vehicle break in on Winslow Way and saw a suspect fleeing north through a parking lot. The suspect bolted into the woods and briefly lost the officers, but was soon seen running west on Winslow Way. An officer pursuing the suspect in a patrol car noted that he was weaving as he ran. After a short chase the suspect hit a parked car and fell to the ground; the officer stopped the patrol car alongside. The suspect got up and started to cross the street but ran into the back of the patrol and again fell to the ground. The suspect got up again and ran back to the parking lot with the officer pursuing on foot. The suspect fell down a third time and was finally caught. The officer recognized the suspect as a 17-year-old who was on probation and had a curfew. The minor appeared intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol but denied having drunk anything. The officer asked him why he had run and the minor replied that he runs from “all” cars at night and knew he would be in trouble for violating his curfew. The minor was arrested. The officer told him he could take a breath alcohol test to prove his sobriety. The minor declined, saying “when we go to court it’s your word against mine.” Police were unable to determine whether any cars had been broken into. The minor was treated on the scene for small abrasions and then was transported to Kitsap Juvenile Detention.

3:04 p.m. Bainbridge Fire Department personnel found an Apple laptop computer on the side of Day Road east of SR-305. The screen of laptop was damaged and non-functional. The computer was booked into storage for safekeeping.
