Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

OCTOBER 22

7:04 a.m. A driver apparently missed the a turn from Bergman Road on to Peterson Road, but found a ditch in the process. Police found the car abandoned. Its registered owner was contacted by phone and said that her 22 year old son had been driving the car the night before. The owner had the vehicle towed to her home. Damage to the vehicle was minor but it had broken off a fence post en route to the ditch. The driver was later interviewed and told police he had been “tired” and had run into the ditch at 3 a.m. He said he decided to walk home and return for the car in the morning.

OCTOBER 23

3:11 p.m. Police impounded a Dodge Caravan found abandoned on Nicholson Place. The vehicle was locked and appeared to have been pushed into the bushes. There was no key in the ignition switch but there was what appeared to be a starter button wired to the steering column. Police could not reach the registered owner by phone. The van was towed to Poulsbo.

4:36 p.m. An officer was dispatched to SR-305 south of Ada’s WIll Road, where a buck had a broken leg. The officer found the deer on the roadside and dispatched it.

OCTOBER 24

11:35 a.m. Vandalism was reported at a bathroom at the Pavilion. An employee called 911 to report elaborate scratches made on a mirror above a sink in a men’s room. Replacement of the mirror was estimated at $400. No suspects.

1:19 p.m. An employee of a Madison Avenue business reported that graffiti had been sprayed on a retaining wall at the back of the property. Black paint had been used to write “G-33.” Removal of the paint was estimated at $100.

2:07 p.m. A Makita mitre saw was reported stolen from the construction site at Bainbridge High School. The saw had been chained to a table saw inside a building under construction. Someone had broken the chain to remove the saw. No suspects.

OCTOBER 25

3:49 p.m. Police responded to Bainbridge Gardens where citizens were attempting to keep a shoeless, intoxicated man from driving. When officers arrived the man being detained was standing unsteadily, smelled of alcohol and appeared to have soiled himself. A store employee told police that a customer thought she had seen the man recklessly driving a silver van through the parking lot. The man, however, told officers that he had driven a Ford truck to the gardens and the truck was identified. The man said he wasn’t sure why he was at Bainbridge Gardens. He said he had been drinking Bud Lite all day, but hadn’t drunk at all the night before. By the end of the conversation the man was incoherent and having trouble holding his head up. The officer requested aid for a medical evaluation and the man was transported to Harrison Hospital. An officer delivered the truck and the man’s dogs to his residence on Battle Point Drive. A report was forwarded to prosecutors for possible driving under the influence charges.

11:48 p.m. A resident called 911 to report that someone had driven by his parked van on Grow Avenue and broken out several of its windows. Damage appeared to have been done by a BB or pellet gun. The resident said he had heared the sound of breaking glass and had seen tail lights of a retreating vehicle. He could not describe the vehicle. Damage to the van was estimated at $750.

OCTOBER 26

12:31 a.m. An officer patrolling on Grow Avenue spotted a silver BMW in the bushes on the side of the road. Two cars were parked nearby and several people were standing near the BMW. The car’s owner, a Bainbridge minor, identified himself and said he hadn’t been hurt when the car went off the road. He appeared intoxicated and “in a mournful way” admitted to having been drinking. The minor was barefoot and wearing only shorts and a t-shirt. The driver said he had gotten into an argument at a party and had left without collecting his shoes. He had scratches on his arms and a cut on his big toe, which he said were from the argument. He said he had simply missed a turn and run off the road. He agreed to field sobriety tests and had trouble with balance and counting exercises. When asked to recite the alphabet he did well until “H,” which he followed with “U, Q, M, H, B, F, G” before stopping. When asked if he was finished, he replied “yes.” The minor was arrested following a portable breath test. He was transported to the county juvenile detention facility and his parents were contacted.

4:36 a.m. A newspaper delivery person reported a verbal dispute in progress between two men at a camp near Ace Hardware. An officer responded and found numerous Ice House beer cans strewn in the area, and a strong smell of alcohol wafting from a tent. The officer contacted two men inside who admitted to having a dispute earlier but said it had been resolved. The officer recognized one of the men as being on probation that precluded him from drinking alcohol. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.
