Fundraiser planned for Bainbridge hit-and-run victim

Coldwell Banker Bain of Bainbridge Island will be holding a dance/walk-a-thon fundraiser for Sarah Dean, a Bainbridge woman who was the victim of a hit-and-run late last year.

Dean was struck by a driver in a Dodge Dakota truck on Dec. 28 while walking along Highway 305 in Poulsbo. The driver didn’t stop and Dean was left critically injured in a ditch in the dark of night.

The fundraiser will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sarah’s birthday, Saturday, April 15. Funds from the dance/walk-a-thon will go to help pay for Sarah’s medical and rehab expenses, which are rapidly mounting following five surgeries which included a foot amputation.

Barb McKenzie, Sarah’s mother, a managing broker at CB Bain of Bainbridge Island and the event is the brainchild of Carii Clawson and Tom Schirle, who also work at the Bainbridge office.

“Sarah is facing many hard months of recovery and rehabilitation, and cannot work at this time,” McKenzie said.

“We’re more than halfway to our fundraising goal, and I’m grateful to Carii, Tom, all my other colleagues and community members for undertaking this effort to defray the costs not covered by insurance. This is a wonderful way to celebrate Sarah’s birthday during a difficult time,” McKenzie, said.

The dance/walk-a-thon will begin at Bainbridge High School and conclude at Waterfront Park in downtown Winslow. The community is invited to participate in the festivities by dancing or walking along the route, and by wearing rainbow colors, as they are joyful, festive and celebrate spring and the promise of a brighter future for Dean.

Donations will be collected at sites provided at the start and end of the route, as well as along the event route.

Donations will be accepted at the CB Bain of Bainbridge Island office, located at 299 Madison Ave. North, or via Sarah Dean’s Go Fund me page at www.gofundme.com/sarah-k-dean.
