Farmers’ Market sprouts new ideas

Bainbridge Island Farmers' Market

You already know you can count on the Bainbridge Island Farmers’ Market as a source for fresh local produce, cheese, seafood, flowers, crafts and now, meats.  With Martha Roben returning as market manager this year, its sprouting a few fresh ideas as well.

One is the popular Market Chef Series, where island chefs demonstrate dishes cooked with local ingredients. The free demonstrations have featured Local Harvest chef Daniel Miller and soon-to-be-open Marché Restaurant chef Greg Atkinson. Admission to the demonstrations is free.

The series continues at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 3, with a demonstration by  chef Brendan McGill of  Hitchcock.

Jeff McClelland of the Harbour House will present Sept. 10; Geraldine Ferraro, of  Four Swallows Restaurant is scheduled for Sept. 17; and IslandWood chef Jim Smith wraps up the series on Sept. 24.

The market has experimented with longer summer hours and in August also ran a photo contest, won by the multi-talented Karen Perry for her image, “Carrots.”
