Extreme high temperatures are expected on Bainbridge Island this weekend.

The city of Bainbridge Island is reminding residents of the “excessive heat warning” that has been announced by the National Weather Service for much of Western Washington.

Islanders should be prepared for unseasonably warm weather expected to last from 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18 through 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20.

Record highs are likely in many areas as well.

According to the National Weather Service office in Seattle: “The hottest days at the coast will be Thursday and Friday with cooling on Saturday. The hottest days for the interior will be Friday and Saturday.”

Friday will be the hottest day on Bainbridge Island, with highs expected to reach 90 degrees, with northeast winds of 3 to 7 miles per hour.

Saturday, Aug. 20 will be sunny, with a high of 83 (58 degrees Saturday night), while Sunday is expected to reach 85 degrees.

The official warning cautions sensitive groups such as the elderly and those working or exercising outdoors to be especially wary.

Residents are also being warned to “never leave children, pets or the elderly unattended in a parked vehicle under any circumstances. This is especially true during warm or hot weather when car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.”
