Ex-SNL star performs in hometown BI

Chris Kattan performed two shows on Bainbridge Island over the weekend to help the theater he worked at when he was 17.

The Saturday Night Live alum performed at Lynwood Theater July 3, ending up adding a second show when the first sold out so quickly.

Although the venue was smaller than what he’s used to, Kattan said he enjoyed the opportunity to perform in his hometown.

“I was planning on coming up for the 4th of July weekend to see my mom and stepdad,” Kattan said. “It’s a perfect way to spend the 4th of July weekend.”

Kattan’s performance was a homage to his hometown. He moved here at age of 15 and later worked at the theater.

“I was so into theater and knew I wanted to get into the business and acting,” Kattan said. “When I worked there, we would get the movie three months before it was out.”

Although he enjoyed performing at Lynwood, that was not his original game plan. He had planned to come home to introduce his girlfriend to his family. However, brother Andrew Joslyn sparked Kattan’s interest.

“My brother reached out to me at first because he books bands and venues,” Kattan said. “He came up with an idea and called me one night and asked about coming back one night to Bainbridge and performing on the island. I never thought of doing that because I never thought of a venue being there.”

Kattan also did not know about the fundraiser going on to help the Lynwood Theatre. Once he found out, he wanted to give back to his community and local theater.

“I thought it would be a great idea,” Kattan said. “I didn’t really know there was a fundraiser until later but I always love to give back to the community.”

Once the show ended, Kattan received a loud round of applause. “I enjoyed doing two shows,” Kattan said. “I hope the people of Bainbridge enjoyed it. I certainly had a great time.”
