The annual Bainbridge Island Girls Lacrosse dirt sale just completed its fourth and most successful year to date — netting more than $12,000.
“This was our best year yet,” said Carol Perry, BIGL fundraising coordinator.
New this year was the ability to order bags of organic Cedar Grove compost or potting soil online through the BIGL website, as well as roadside signs placed around the island with the “Got Dirt?” marketing message.
“Our sales force, comprised of third grade through high school players, is really the nuts and bolts for making this a truly rewarding fundraising effort,” Perry added.
Eighth-grader Eleanor Collins bagged the most sales for the entire program. She took home top place honors and received a $100 gift card to Sport Haus and a great assortment of Bainbridge Island and collegiate gear.
Bainbridge High freshman Bella Jackson contributed the next highest sales numbers and snagged a $50 gift card from Sport Haus plus cool lacrosse gear. High school teammates Nina Davis, Katie Usellis and Sonia Olson rounded out the top five in dirt sales and received terrific prizes, too. The varsity team had a 100 percent participation rate and the highest sales among all the teams. In recognition, they will receive a pizza party to celebrate their efforts.
Bainbridge Island Girls Lacrosse is a nonprofit program open to all girls third grade through 12th who are interested in playing a fun and challenging team sport. Monies raised are used to help defray the cost of registration and field rentals, which keep registration fees lower while ensuring BIGL continues to retain great coaches.
The proceeds from this fundraiser also allow the program to provide need-based scholarships to assure anyone who wants to play can participate in this great and growing sport.
