After a two-week hiatus, the Bainbridge Island City Council will meet tonight to address the city’s business.

Among the list of agenda items, the council will discuss a few hot topics, including an update on the ongoing city manager search as well as addressing the issue of how the council uses the city attorney and outside counsel.

The search for a city manager is currently being tackled by an ad hoc committee comprised of Councilwoman Anne Blair, Councilman Steve Bonkowski and Councilman David Ward. The council hopes that by June or July they will have a new city manager hired.

The council had previously taken $250,000 out of their contingency fund to pay for the search for a new city manager. These funds will also include current City Manager Brenda Bauer’s severance pay, which will take up to $170,000.

Also on the agenda is 20 minutes to discuss issues surrounding the Unocal Park proposal and the grant application that local residents Melanie Keenan and Malcolm Gander have prepared. The grant has been submitted to the state Department of Ecology and is for approximately $200,000 and would cover assessing the park site to gauge the environmental damage and hopefully the costs to clean it up.

Previously, residents have come together to build a park on the former Unocal gas station site to help solve an eyesore that sits at the entrance to the city.

The council meets at 5:30 p.m.

A closed-door executive session is planned for 6:25 p.m. The topics are current litigation, potential litigation and collective bargaining.

The council will reconvene in open session at 7:25 p.m.
