City officials are considering accepting credit cards for payments at city hall.

The topic of accepting credit cards at city hall has been a common issue buzzing throughout community for some time.

The city had previously considered accepting credit cards, but only now has it begun to look into the possibility, according to Finance Director Ellen Schroer.

Sterling Bank, the city’s current banker, is the first choice to handle the electronic transactions.

The set-up costs for the credit card upgrades is expected to not exceed $1,000. There is likely to be a $50 monthly charge for the service as well, in addition to any transaction fees associated with electronic purchases.

Currently, the only payment methods accepted at city hall is by cash or check.
