Christmas Eve BI church thief caught

He’s also suspected in 14 other burglaries

The thief who stole items from cars in the parking lot at Island Church on Christmas Eve finally has been caught.

The 36-year-old Poulsbo man actually is the suspect in 15 burglaries all over Kitsap County. A recent search of his residence found almost $39,500 worth of stolen goods, not including many valuable firearms.

The man, who has several previous felony convictions, was in Kitsap County Superior Court Feb. 10. Bail was set at $500,000.

Court papers say five witnesses said the man would burglarize homes when people were at work or on vacation. Using cell tower information police were able to conclude that the man had been in all of these areas when the crimes were committed. The man prowled numerous cars at Island Church, then went to one of the houses of someone at the church and burglarized it.

He was charged with 10 counts: two of first-degree burglary, with a maximum penalty of life in prison and $50,000 in fines for each one; residential burglary, max 10 years and a $20,000 fine; a count of possession of a firearm and two counts of second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, max five years and $10,000 each; and four counts of first-degree possession of stolen property, with a max of five years and $10,000 fine for each.

Along with firearms and ammunition, he stole: a car, trailers, TVs, computers, Playstations, bicycles, clothes, riding lawnmower, log splitter, comic books, jewelry, fishing poles and reels, furniture, boat motor, rototiller, kid’s bike and helmet, mail, and a North Kitsap Fire and Rescue jacket.
