Officer shot at

Law enforcement officers have a man in custody two hours after announcing the search for an armed suspect in the Olalla area.

A Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office news release says that deputies were making contact with a 29-year-old man in connection with a case involving felony harassment with a firearm. A gunshot allegedly was fired at deputies by the suspect, who ran into a wooded area. No injuries were reported.

Officials after 4:30 p.m. said that the man had been arrested after people spotted him walking along a roadway and called 911.

The incident caused Olalla Elementary School to go into lockdown and a section of SE Burley Olalla Road off Highway 16 to close.

Sewage spill

A sewage spill of 12,000 gallons has led to a no-contact advisory for the Illahee shoreline and Illahee Creek through Jan. 17.

Kitsap Public Health District reported Jan. 11 that shellfish harvesting also will be closed through Jan. 31.

The district recommends no contact with the waters in those areas. Signs are posted at public access points.

The county Public Works Department reported the spill Jan. 10.

Sewage contains human fecal matter. Advisories are issued to keep people from getting sick.
