The Bainbridge Island City Council has approved a $192,790 contract with Sound Excavation to replace a crushed concrete pipe and undersized culverton Dripping Water Creek with an aluminum box culvert.

The council unanimously OK’d the contract at its meeting Monday.

City officials said the existing culvert along Sunrise Drive at Dripping Water Creek is failing, and the creek has overtopped the road during recent storm events and prompted concerns about driver safety.

Sound Excavation, a Bremerton-based company, submitted the low bid for the project.

Eight firms bid on the project, with the highest bid submitted by Nova for $278,000. Sound Excavation submitted the only bid under $200,000.

The city’s engineering bid for the project estimated it would cost $175,000 to $200,000 to complete.
