Winslow Way patrons got a bit of a startle Tuesday afternoon as Bainbridge Island fire trucks responded to reports of smoke emerging from the post office. Though as firefighters found out, looks can be deceiving.

The BIFD responded to a call from a passerby who reported seeing smoke coming from the roof of the post office. Upon arrival firefighters discovered that the building’s boiler room was in the process of having repairs performed on it. The repairs resulted in some smoke, and a burning smell that still hung in the air as fire trucks left the scene.
