Best bets for Sept. 1–3 | The Bainbridge Blab

Oh it’s here friends, the end is upon us!

The end of summer, that is.

At least for students, the long evenings, late mornings and seemingly endless amounts of time to do whatever your heart desires have come to an abrupt, painful end. The adults try not exhibit too much schadenfreude, but having to work all summer while the kids play stick ball or kick the can, or whatever else kids do in their free time, can make the soul grow bitter.

If you are looking to kick off an end-of-summer farewell tour with a little walking and a little art, you’re in luck this Friday thanks to the First Fridays Art Walk in downtown Winslow.

Take a jaunt through downtown Winslow’s galleries and take a gander at some of Bainbridge’s artist’s finest creations. Participating venues also include the Bainbridge Public Library & Marge Williams Center. Refreshments are served at most venues and a number of local restaurants join the monthly event, offering small plates and weekend specials.

Have you ever been a guest at a dinner party? Neither have we — well, not since Sharon decided that bringing a bag of pretzels doesn’t count as an appetizer — but we assume that hosts of dinner parties do all sorts of fancy things like cooking delicious meals, preparing thirst-slaking libations and leaving folded napkins at each guest’s place setting. While you may not be hosting any dinner parties anytime soon, you can still make your napkins look top-notch.

On Saturday, join Laura Meinhardt, author of Olga’s Fabulous Folds, for a free, hands-on mini workshop on napkin folding during the next Artists’ Insight Series at Bainbridge Arts & Crafts at 12:30 p.m.

On Sunday, head down to the Bloedel Reserve at 6:30 p.m. to check out Parsa Duo as the pair present the sumptuous sounds of cello and harp in an innovative and richly textured classical concert

The program includes classical selections from Ravel, Bartok, Rachmaninov, Piazzolla, Bruch, Williams and others. There will also be interesting international folk songs, tangos, and accessible contemporary pieces.

Picnics are allowed; wine and beer will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $35 for Bloedel members, $45 for non-members, at www.bloedelreserve.org/summerconcerts.

After enjoying a relaxing evening of cello and harp at the Bloedel Reserve, it’s time to retire to more comfortable environs and patiently await the days when air-conditioning is no longer a requirement for REM sleep.
