Best Bets for Feb. 3 – 5 | The Bainbridge Blab

Welcome, once again, to your weekend. The decisions you make here may drastically affect your future. Choose wisely.

On Friday, treat yourself to a jaunt through downtown Winslow for the First Friday Art Walk. Swing by the local galleries and shops to see what new and interesting works of art are up for sale. For a full list of participating businesses, click here.

Also on Friday, catch the annual Bainbridge High stage sensation — student-written, produced, acted and decorated — the annual Winter One Acts play festival is set to return to the high school large group instruction room at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $8 for students and $10 for adults.

On Saturday, gypsy jazz musicians from around Puget Sound will celebrate Django Reinhardt’s 107th birthday with an evening of music from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Treehouse Café. The party will be hosted by local gypsy jazz band Ranger and the Re-Arrangers and will feature guest appearances by Roger Ferguson on guitar, Chris Laughbon on trombone, Matt Sircely on mandolin, Stephen Vail on saxophone and John Willett and Ann Parker on vocals. Admission is free. Donations will be accepted.

On Sunday, the Men’s Compline Choir of Bainbridge Island will be moving its Compline performance from Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church to Saint Cecilia Parish starting at 8 p.m. Compline, also called Night Prayer, is the last of the traditional daily services sung by monastic communities and dates back to at least the 8th century. The service consists of chant, readings, psalms, prayers, petitions and hymns, sung in a contemplative setting in a darkened church. Sounds like a perfect location to mourn the passing of your weekend.
