The Seattle Police Harbor Patrol and the Fire Department rescued two men attempting to kayak from Bremerton to Seattle at 2 a.m.
After watching the National Championship football game and drinking beer in Bremerton, the men decided to kayak to Seattle at around 8 p.m.
When the 28-year-old man fell out of his kayak, the 36-year-old man used his cell phone to call for help.
Land-based firefighters spotted the men more than a mile off shore, and a police boat them up, a SFD spokeswoman said.
The younger man was in the water for 45 minutes before being rescued.
He was hypothermic and taken to Harborview Medical Center.
