Beer + kayaking = 2 a.m. rescue by Seattle harbor patrol

The Seattle Police Harbor Patrol and the Fire Department rescued two men attempting to kayak from Bremerton to Seattle at 2 a.m.

The Seattle Police Harbor Patrol and the Fire Department rescued two men attempting to kayak from Bremerton to Seattle at 2 a.m.

After watching the National Championship football game and drinking beer in Bremerton, the men decided to kayak to Seattle at around 8 p.m.

When the 28-year-old man fell out of his kayak, the 36-year-old man used his cell phone to call for help.

Land-based firefighters spotted the men more than a mile off shore, and a police boat them up, a SFD spokeswoman said.

The younger man was in the water for 45 minutes before being rescued.

He was hypothermic and taken to Harborview Medical Center.
