Bainbridge woman tells police that dream led to alleged theft of dog

A dream of a new pet has turned out to be something of a nightmare for an elderly Bainbridge Island woman.

A dream of a new pet has turned out to be something of a nightmare for an elderly Bainbridge Island woman.

Bainbridge Island police investigated a report of a stolen dog on Thursday, Aug. 9 that ended in an arrest of a woman in her 70s. She allegedly told police that she was told in a dream to steal another woman’s dog, and also claimed the pet owner told her telepathically to spirit away the diminutive doggy.

The case began when a resident on Madison Avenue told police she received a disturbing phone call from her daughter while she was out of town.

Her daughter said her small pooch was missing, but the woman also said she knew exactly who took it.

She told officers that a woman in her 70s had often talked to her about her cute puppy over the past year, and at one point, had asked her to give her the dog.

The elderly woman said she had dreams that the dog was supposed to be hers, and also asked to have play dates with the little pooch.

After finding out her pet was missing, the woman told police she called the elderly woman and asked if she had taken her dog. The elderly woman allegedly admitted that she had, but added that she was told to take the animal in a dream.

When the dog’s owner told her she was going to call the police, the elderly woman responded by cursing at the pet owner before hanging up the phone.

Bainbridge Island police officers went to the elderly woman’s home to speak with her, and found her busy doing the dishes.

The elderly woman admitted to taking the dog and insisted that she took it because the animal was being abused, according to a police report on the canine caper.

Officers asked her how she knew the dog was being abused and she simply said, “People talk.”

She said that the dog was in her garage and it was afraid to come out. She said she had taken the dog earlier that day and that the door was unlocked to the dog owner’s home.

Officers then asked the woman to stop doing the dishes while they spoke, but the elderly woman refused. Police began to feel unsafe as the woman began washing several knives.

Police then arrested the woman for burglary.

While being handcuffed, the elderly woman asked police to feed her dog, which they did. The woman then got angry that she was being arrested and insisted that the dog’s owner told her to take the animal.

She then said that she was told telepathically to take the dog, and then asked if the officer was telepathic.

Police located the dog in the woman’s garage. The small pooch was frightened, but came out after an officer called its name.

Police said the dog was happily reunited with its owner.
