A 52-year-old Bainbridge Island woman was one of three people injured in a five-car pileup Saturday afternoon on Highway 305 in Poulsbo.

According to the Washington State Patrol, the accident occurred on Highway 305 at Johnson Way when a 30-year-old Federal Way man in a 2001 UD box truck was heading north on the highway and rear-ended a 46-year-old Poulsbo man in a 2009 Honda Pilot who had slowed for traffic.

The crash sent the Honda into the southbound lane, where it struck head-on a 2012 Volkswagen Jetta being driven by the Bainbridge woman.

The Jetta then spun around and hit another vehicle heading north, a BMW X5 with a 49-year-old Poulsbo woman behind the wheel.

The BMW then went onto the right shoulder of the highway and hit a Chevrolet Impala that had been abandoned on the side of the road.

The driver of the truck was hurt and taken to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton. The truck was totaled.

The Poulsbo man in the Honda Pilot was also injured and was taken by an aid unit to Harrison Hospital in Bremerton. The Honda was also totaled.

The Bainbridge woman was treated at the scene, and her Jetta was also totaled.

The Poulsbo woman in the BMW was not hurt, and her vehicle was driven from the scene.

The Impala that had been left by the side of the road was also totaled, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Highway 305 was blocked in both directions for two-and-a-half hours after the crash, which was reported at 4:14 p.m.

According to WSP, the accident was caused by the first driver speeding too fast for conditions.
