The Bainbridge Island Police Department, in partnership with The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, will observe National Missing Children’s Day this year by participating in the “Take 25” child safety campaign.

Police officers will be at Kids Discover Museum from 11 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 23 to pass out free fingerprint kits and provide other information on the “Take 25” event.

National Missing Children’s Day serves as an annual reminder that there are thousands of children who are still missing, and stresses the importance of making child protection a national priority. The campaign encourages parents to take 25 minutes to talk to their children about safety and ways to prevent abduction.

“It’s my hope this project’s message will remind parents of how important it is to take the time to talk with your children about their personal safety. Taking 25 minutes to talk to your child can provide them with the tools they need to escape a would-be-abductor,” said Bainbridge Police Chief Matthew Hamner.

Every year in America, an estimated 800,000 children are reported missing, more than approximately 2,000 each day.
