Bainbridge Island Police Department has released frames from surveillance footage showing two robbery suspects entering the Fletcher Bay Mart on Sept. 26.

Detective Mo Stich, who issued the bulletin, said police believe the suspects may be from north Kitsap County because they showed familiarity with the store in their brazen entry.

Police say the men entered the gas station market just after 8:22 p.m. They took cigarettes and cash before fleeing on foot. Neither displayed a weapon during the robbery, but they did physically intimidate shopkeepers during the robbery, police said.

One of the suspects was chased from a back room of the store by the store’s owner, who wielded a mop handle.

One suspect was dressed in a white T-shirt and blue jeans, with a gray sweater masking half of his face. The suspect was described as 5 feet 9 inches tall, according to police.

The second suspect was wearing a puffy black jacket with the words “South Pole” in white lettering on the back, and a black scarf masking his face. He was described as 5 feet 11 inches tall.

The bulletin has been posted around the island and has been sent to police and sheriff’s departments around the state. Since it was released Monday, Stich said she has received a fresh lead in the case from another law enforcement office. She said the release of the photos was delayed by technical issues and because the department wanted to see if information on the suspects emerged that could be included with the bulletin.

Stich said it is hoped that citizens who recognize the suspects will come forward with more information, and said the bulletin also serves as a community advisory.

“It’s good to alert the community in general to this type of crime,” Stich said. “Even though there were no weapons displayed, the takeover-style nature of the robbery was alarming.”
