Breaking up is hard to do. But it’s a little easier when a Bainbridge Island police officer helps you out.

An officer responded to a call from a concerned young woman at 11:22 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 7.

The woman was in the process of leaving her boyfriend of three months, but the strain of the rocky relationship was too much over the past week.

The couple had met as co-workers at an island medical center, according to a police report. The boyfriend was homeless at the time and was couch surfing. He moved in with the young woman at a basement apartment at her parent’s north end home.

The woman went out for a night of bowling with her friends, but without her boyfriend, on Friday, Feb. 1. The boyfriend used her car to drive to the bowling alley in Silverdale.

The woman told police that she was tipsy and had to lean on a male friend to balance, but made a point to officers that nothing happened between them.

Her boyfriend came up to her, they briefly exchanged words and he left.

The woman told police she was concerned her boyfriend was mad so she didn’t go home for a couple of days.

She did communicate with him through Facebook messages, however, and told him that he could use her car to visit his child.

When she did return home Sunday, Feb. 3 she found a used condom in her bed. Her feather duster, leather flogger and other sex toys were also on the bed and were damaged. She further found lip gloss and powder poured into her underwear drawer.

The woman was angry over all the discoveries in her room, and the boyfriend slept on the couch that night.

On Monday morning, the young woman went to work and after talking about the matter with co-workers decided that she did not want the boyfriend living with her anymore. She sent him a Facebook message saying he needed to be out of her place by the end of the day.

When she returned home late that night she found a pile of her clothes destroyed, including a number of pants, swimsuit bottoms and underwear that had the crotches ripped or cut out.

The woman reported the series of incidents to police on Thursday, Feb. 7. She showed officers Facebook messages between her and the boyfriend.

While he didn’t admit to damaging the clothes on Facebook, he said she got what she deserved.

Police found the boyfriend at his place of work later that day. He admitted to cutting up his girlfriend’s clothing.

He said he felt he was justified in doing so because he thought she was seeing other guys.

According to the boyfriend, he went to check on the woman at the bowling alley because he is a little insecure and found her being groped and kissed by another guy.

Police told the boyfriend that he was now an

ex-boyfriend and that the woman did not want any further contact with him.

A report on the incident was forwarded to the Kitsap County Prosecutor’s Office for consideration of charges.
