Bainbridge Police Blotter | May 28

Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

May 17

3:34 p.m. The bathrooms and sidewalks at Waterfront Park were defaced with spray paint.

A caller told police that someone had spray-painted the doors to the restrooms and the concrete around them. The messages included profanity, and they were offending the park’s guests, the caller said.

When police arrived to take photos of the vandalism, the caller had already begun cleaning it up. He told police he had photos they could take for evidence.

Police have no suspects.

2:52 p.m. A resident reported that someone had fraudulently accessed her bank account.

The woman told police her account had been charged three separate times without her permission. All three of the charges happened on May 3, in Indiana.

The first transaction was for $170.60, at Nice and Easy Gas in Hammond, Ind. Later that day, $277.61 was spent at Speedway 06700 in East Chicago, Ind. The final charge also happened in Hammond, and it was for $267.98 at a place called Luke’s. The three charges totaled $716.19.

She told police she still has her debit card and gave no one access to the account. She had no information on a potential suspect but told police the bank was planning to investigate.

May 19

8:42 p.m. A man was arrested after attacking two individuals, one of whom had filed a protective order against him.

Police were called to a fight and in the background they could hear a lot of screaming and shouting.

The three people involved were clearly intoxicated, and police were aware of a bad history between them. The caller said a female friend was at an apartment with another man, and she was afraid he was going to attack her.

When the caller arrived at the man’s home he was immediately grabbed by the throat and taken down to the floor.

Police said the woman could barely stand due to her level of intoxication. She said the man had attacked her before and she filed a protective order against him.

In this instance, she said the man grabbed her by the forearms and forced her arms behind her back. He then punched her in the left eye.

Police placed the man under arrest on three counts of assault and violating a protective order.

1:07 p.m. A woman found a boat had run aground in her front yard.

Police arrived and found a small, light blue boat with a white cover. It was high up on the beach, on dry ground, and no one was around it. It didn’t appear to police that the boat had been driven recently. There were two outboard motors attached to the rear of the boat.

When police called in the boat’s registration, they discovered it had been reported stolen.

The registered owner reported the boat stolen with the Kitsap County Sheriffs Office earlier that day when she noticed the boat was gone from its dock.

The husband of the registered owner came and identified the boat. Upon closer inspection, it became apparent that the boat had broken free of a dock.

The owner said it was moored at a nearby dock. Police secured the boat to a log until the man could retrieve it later that day, during high tide.

May 21

3:42 p.m. A man reported someone broke a key in a mailbox lock twice in the last two months. He felt it was suspicious and perhaps had been done on purpose.

The incident carried with it a minimal amount of monetary loss, with the primary expense being the time it took to remove the broken key.

The man had no information on a possible suspect.

Police spoke with a clerk at the U.S. Post Office at Winslow Way, who said he was unaware of any such problems.

May 23

12:06 a.m. A woman lost control of her truck and crashed into a fence, ending up in a resident’s front yard. The woman was arrested for DUI.

When officers arrived on the scene they noticed the car was still running and its headlights were on.

It sustained heavy damage in the crash. It was sitting on top of a smashed wooden fence and uprooted a small tree and recycling bin.

A woman, who officers said showed signs of intoxication, was driving the car. She told them she was OK, but she was limping noticeably.

She said she drank two beers that night at a local bar. She agreed to take several field sobriety tests. She blew a .155 on a portable breathalyzer test and was put under arrest for DUI.

At the police station she blew a .153 and .148, and upon seeing the results, she said: “I knew I shouldn’t have been driving.”
