POLICE BLOTTER

Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents. See an interactive map of incidents below.

MAY 4

11:03 a.m. A resident of Camp Hill, Pa., reported receiving harassing phone calls from a Bainbridge address. On each occasion the caller had told her that the warranty on her car was about to expire and solicited personal information. The woman refused to divulge anything to the caller and looked up the address attached to the phone number. The call had apparently originated on Sunrise Drive. Bainbridge police found two other reports of harassment that involved calls from the same address. The investigation continues.

MAY 5

9:34 p.m. A driver reported nearly being hit head-on by a car that swerved across the centerline of High School Road. Witnesses also saw the car run over a sidewalk. Police responded and identified the vehicle parked nearby. The driver, a Bainbridge woman, was slumped in the seat asleep. Officers noted that one tire of the car was blown out and pulled away from the rim, apparently from colliding with a curb. Officers awoke the driver and she asked them where she was and how she had gotten there. The woman at first said she had drunk two glasses of wine before driving that evening, but later re-estimated the number at four. She appeared extremely intoxicated and stumbled her way through several field sobriety tests. Police arrested the woman for driving under the influence. During booking the woman admitted that she had been drinking too much to drive, and said she was glad she hadn’t hit anyone. Her blood-alcohol content registered .231 in a breath test. She was transported to Kitsap County Jail and booked for driving under the influence.

MAY 6

4:04 p.m. A Wii gaming system valued at $300 was stolen from an adult care center on Manitou Park Boulevard. No suspects.

MAY 7

8:21 a.m. A public works employee discovered vandalism at Waterfront Park. A lock to a shed had been broken off and graffiti had been sprayed inside the door. According to the employee, it was the fourth time the lock had been removed. Damage was estimated at $355.

10:46 a.m. Cash was reported stolen from a desk in the senior center on Brien Drive. The theft had apparently occurred on May 4. A total of $74 was reported missing. The money was a donation for a park district field trip. No suspects.

3:25 p.m. A motorist driving a Ford F250 south on Lynwood Center Road near Sade Lane swerved to avoid rear-ending a vehicle and collided with an oncoming car instead. The driver, a Bainbridge man, said a car in front of him had stopped but his foot had slipped when he tried to brake his truck. Realizing he couldn’t stop in time, the driver swerved left over the centerline, side-swiping a northbound Honda. The Honda ran off the east side of the road and into a patch of trees. The driver of the Honda was hospitalized with face and shoulder injuries. The driver of the Ford was not injured and was cited for failing to stay right of the centerline. Both the Ford and Honda were towed.

MAY 8

Noon. Fire and police personnel interviewed a contractor at Virginia Mason Clinic who had burned his ear while working on a propane stove in a restaurant. The contractor said the burn didn’t hurt and he was “a little confused why the police were involved.” The man was transported to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment. A report was forwarded to Labor and Industries.

MAY 9

8:59 a.m. An unleashed dog bit a dog being walked on a leash at Strawberry Plant Park. The dog on the receiving end of the bite was not seriously injured and the owners of the aggressive dog offered to pay for any vet bills.

8:07 p.m. Police responded to the ferry terminal where a knife-wielding man was reportedly trying to break into a locked room. When officers arrived the suspect, a Seattle man, was walking out of the terminal and was no longer carrying a knife. The man seemed excited and dissoriented. A search of his person turned up a set of brass knuckles. Ferry employees identified the vehicle the man had arrived in, which was sitting in the middle of a parking lot. An officer found several pill bottles and a baseball bat inside. A records check showed that the man had an outstanding warrant for a suspended license. He was arrested. The man was cooperative and told officers that he was on medication. The case was turned over to Washington State Patrol.

MAY 10

1:51 a.m. An officer on foot patrol spotted three youths loitering near the water tower by Bainbridge High School. Two disappeared into the woods, but one came and talked to the officer. He said that he and his friends were camping on the campus. The officer found the other two youths lying quietly in sleeping bags in the woods nearby. Nine cans of beer were found in the camp, along with a hat equipped with beer holders and a drinking straw. One of the youths claimed ownership of all the beer and was recommended for a minor in possession charge. All three were recommended for trespass. They were released to their parents.
