Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

JANUARY 13

4:16 p.m. Agate Street resident reported her house burglarized. She said she had been in and out of her home all day and had left French doors in the rear of the house unlocked. At 4 p.m. she discovered a number of items missing from the home, including a 46-inch flat screen television, a digital camera, pearl necklace and a diamond and sapphire wedding ring. Neighbors reported seeing a van driving slowly in the area that day. No suspects.

JANUARY 15

6:18 p.m. A Lexus motoring southbound on SR-305 near Agatewood Road struck a pedestrian who had been trying to cross the roadway. The victim was lying on his back in the ditch when officers arrived. The victim asked an officer to check his pupils, which appeared normal, and said he was concerned about missing work. The victim said he had been trying to cross from Agatewood Road to the west side of SR-305 when he was hit. There is no pedestrian crossing at the site and the man was wearing dark clothing. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center for evaluation. The driver of the Lexus said she was traveling at 45 mph when she saw a dark figure dart into her lane. She swerved right but could not avoid hitting the man. Two witnesses corroborated the driver’s account and said the impact flipped the man over the front of the Lexus. The man was cited by mail for crossing a roadway outside of a pedestrian crossing.

JANUARY 17

12:28 p.m. An officer stopped a dump truck hauling dirt and sand on Agatewood Road at SR-305. The truck did not appear to have the required 6 inches of freeboard above the load and the load was not tarped. The driver had a commercial instruction permit but did not have a current insurance card or required medical card. He said he knew operating the truck without proper certification was a mistake and blamed his brother for pressuring him into taking the job. The driver was issued warnings for the multiple violations.

JANUARY 18

1:08 a.m. Police responded to a Fletcher Bay road residence after receiving a report of a loud party involving juveniles. Officers contacted several adults outside the residence. As they talked, one male and two female juveniles walked around the side of the house. The juveniles were detained. The male was swaying and slurring his words and smelled strongly of alcohol. The two females were also swaying slightly but appeared less intoxicated. The females said they had drunk one or two beers each. The male said he had drunk two beers and three shots of a 46 proof alcohol. The trio were arrested for minor in possession of alcohol. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.

5:10 a.m. Bainbridge police were contacted after a group of patrons left a credit card belonging to an island resident at a Sherri’s restaurant in Silverdale. According to a waitress, a party of four left the credit card on the table after finishing their meal. The waitress tried to run the card but found it was declined. She confronted the group outside of the restaurant. One person reportedly told her “Hey, it’s not our problem,” before the group hastily left the area. The waitress provided police with a license plate number and information from the credit card, which belonged to a Grow Avenue resident. Police contacted the resident who said he had left his wallet in his parked truck. He walked out to the truck and found the wallet missing. The wallet contained several bank cards, his driver license and $80 cash. The reported license plate was found to have been stolen from a vehicle in Silverdale. The case was closed.

9 a.m. A Toyota Prius hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk at the intersection of Wyatt Way and Madison Avenue. The pedestrian suffered scrapes and bruises. The driver was cited for failing to yield.

11:17 a.m. Burglars broke into a church on Finch Road and made off with a large television and a DVD/VCR player. It appeared the suspects had entered by dismantling a louvered window. Finger prints and a partial footprint were found on the scene. Church personnel could provide no suspect information.

3:52 p.m. An Agate Point Road man called his neighbor to ask him to quiet down his barking dogs. The dog owner responded by walking to the caller’s house and assaulting him. The dog owner was charged with assault and malicious mischief.

JANUARY 19

11:30 a.m. A Poulsbo man driving a Toyota Camry said he was distracted looking at his Mp3 player and failed to see a stop sign at High School Road and Sportsman Club Road. The Camry hit a GMC Jimmy crossing the intersection. The Camry was towed and its driver was cited for failing to stop.

1:18 a.m. Police responded to a hit-and-run incident at the intersection of Day Road and Manzanita Road. The suspect vehicle had been traveling west on Day Road when it rolled straight through the T-intersection at Manzanita Road. The vehicle careened up a dirt embankment and became airborne, striking a large tree in midair before landing. The vehicle then drove over several shrubs, rolled over a wall of cottage stones and traveled another 15 feet before colliding with a vacant house. A prescription bottle was found at scene a along with several tablets later identified as Vicodin. Vehicle parts found scattered in the area were identified as belonging to a Range Rover Discovery. Police eventually made contact with a woman who admitted to having driven into the house. She said she had not meant to conceal the collision and was planning to make private arrangements to pay for the damage. She denied having been under the influence of drugs or alcohol. A report was forwarded to prosecutors.

JANUARY 20

8:38 a.m. A Bainbridge resident reported an apparent fraud after purchasing lottery tickets at Heathrow Airport in London. The man said he had bought two tickets on his way home to the United States for 50 pounds each. After arriving home he received an e-mail informing him he had won 516,778 pounds. A second e-mail instructed him that he could receive the money by choosing one of three courier services, the least expensive of which ran $650. The man suspected the lottery was a scam and asked that Bainbridge Police contact Scotland Yard.

3:10 p.m. Netflix DVD copies of “The Big Lebowski” and “Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle” were reported missing from a mailbox on Crystal Springs Drive. The resident said the DVDs had been removed from their envelopes. No suspects.

JANUARY 21

1:44 p.m. The owner of a Madison Avenue property told police he has been documenting graffiti occuring at the property for the past two months. The graffiti included the tag “BSO” which had been recorded in earlier vandalism cases. The owner said he had not cleaned the graffiti off yet and hoped that the responsible parties would assist in the cleanup. Damage was estimated at $2,000.

JANUARY 23

6:44 a.m. Suspects broke into a Parfitt Way business overnight and stole more than $2,500 from locked safes inside. A side door of the building appeared to have been pried open. Two safes were found in the business’s kitchen, along with a broken kitchen knife, which may have been used as a prying device. The cash register had also been pried open and an estimated $300 was missing from its drawers. A pair of blue mittens were found in the business. Damage to the door was estimated at $1,000. The business owner provided police with a list of current and former employees but could give no suspect information. The investigation continues.

12:57 p.m. The manager of an island gas station told police he suspected a recently terminated employee was harassing his employees and vandalizing their vehicles. He said employees and customers had reported seeing the woman “lurking” around the station; employees had found antennas broken off their vehicles. The case was recorded.
