Four finalists have been picked in the search for a new municipal court judge for Bainbridge Island.

The final four are Thomas Alpaugh, Sara McCulloch, Steve Olsen and Cindy Smith.

The finalists will be interviewed by City Manager Doug Schulze and two Puget Sound-area municipal court judges.

Alpaugh currently serves as the city’s public defender, and has been in that role for 21 years. In addition, he owns a private practice on Bainbridge Island that focuses on criminal defense, personal injury, estate planning and probate.

McCulloch is a senior deputy prosecutor for King County, where she is senior specialist for sex offender registration related cases and issues. She has worked in the prosecutor’s office since 1999.

Olsen is an attorney who has owned a private practice on Bainbridge Island since 1992 and has been a judge pro-tem for 22 years. He is a former prosecutor for Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo, and former chief deputy prosecutor for Jefferson County.

Smith has served as associate judge for Suquamish Tribal Court since 1998. She is also tribal court judge for the Hoh Tribe, and sits as a judge pro-tem for several local courts.
