Police blotter

Bainbridge Police reported the following incidents:

JULY 28

4:43 p.m. Safeway employees detained a 16-year-old boy for pilfering a bottle of beer. An employee told police he saw the boy conceal the bottle in a pocket of his sweatshirt. After being detained the boy tried to flee the store twice before officers arrived. He was arrested for shoplifting and minor in possession of alcohol and released to his mother. A report was forwarded to prosecutors for charging.

JULY 29

11:17 a.m. A construction crew working on a house on Park View Drive discovered evidence of a burglary. Someone had forced open the garage door of the residence, apparently hoping to find construction equipment. Nothing was stored inside but the break-in caused $200 in damage. No suspects.

1:14 p.m. A Washington State Ferries employee told police a pedestrian had purposefully dented her vehicle with his briefcase as she backed into a Diamond parking stall. The employee said she saw a man walk rapidly into the parking lot and walk directly behind her vehicle as she was backing. She then heard something strike her car’s trunk. A witness said he saw the man walk deliberately behind the vehicle and hit it with his briefcase. The WSF employee followed the man to his vehicle, a red SUV, and recorded his license plate number. Police searched for the plate number without success.

9:46 p.m. Police responded to a Bainbridge residence where two sisters had reportedly assaulted each other. Both sisters were contacted at the home. One said they had gotten into an argument over bottled water purchased at a store and the dispute had escalated to violence. Both women were treated for minor injuries at the scene. One woman was found to have four outstanding felony warrants in Kitsap County for thefts totalling $8,000. She was arrested and booked into Kitsap County Jail.

JULY 30

9:52 a.m. A parking enforcement officer collected an abandoned bicycle from the Safeway parking lot. The bicycle was a pink and purple Huffy Celebrate with training wheels. It was placed in storage for safekeeping.

1:36 p.m. Vandals sprayed black paint onto a concrete wall on Cherry Avenue. A resident said the paint had appeared sometime over the previous week. No suspects.

4:19 p.m. A Bainbridge woman driving a Toyota Avalon apparently dozed off at the wheel and hit a row of mail and newspaper boxes on Sportsman Club Road en route to the ditch. The woman said she had felt sleepy on SR-305 and pulled off onto Sportsman Club Road where she believes she fell asleep at the wheel. She was cited for inattention to driving.

8:54 p.m. A man came to the back door of the police station with his hand wrapped in bloody paper towels. He said he was a dishwasher at a Madison Avenue business and had severely cut the thumb on a meat slicer. The man was teated by fire personnel and transported to a hospital in Silverdale. A report was forwarded to Labor and Industries.

JULY 31

3:53 p.m. A Lynwood Center resident came to report her suspicion that a neighbor was putting rocks in her yard to harass her. She had collected six large bags of rocks from her yard and insisted that an officer inspect one of the stones. The officer noted nothing suspicious about the rock. The case was documented.

AUGUST 1

12:59 p.m. Outfield fencing from a Battle Point Park ball field was discovered stolen. The fence had been taken down and rolled up to make way for grass mowers. The fencing was blue, and measured 300 feet long by 4 feet tall. Thirty PVC pipes used to hold the fencing were also missing. The fence was valued at $700.

3:06 p.m. A Subaru Forrester rearended a Nissan Pickup on Koura Road while detouring due to an accident on SR-305. The Subaru was towed to an auto shop. No injuries were reported.

11:37 p.m. An officer stopped a vehicle on HIdden Cove Road after observing it driving erratically on SR-305. The driver was contacted. He said he had been distracted because he had had a tough day at work. As they talked the officer noted an alcohol smeel on drivers breath. His eyes appeared to be bloodshopt and wateray and he slurred his words. He told the officer that he had had one beer and hour and a half before but had not eaten or drunk anything else. He was arrested for driving under the influence following poor performances on a breath alcohol test and field tests. A search of his vehicle turned up a two syringes and a flower bud that appeared to be from a poppy. The man was booked into Kitsap County Jail.

AUGUST 2

12:57 p.m. Police responded to the ferry terminal where a woman was reportedly acting either mentally ill or under the influence of drugs. Officers recognized the woman as a person whom they had contacted many times in the past. She appeared unsteady and told them she had been taking methadone. Two tablets later identified as Xanax, a drug she did not have a prescription for. The woman had an outstanding misdemeanor warrant from Bainbridge Municipal Court. She was arrested for the warrant and for drug possession. She was evaluated by fire personnel at the scene before being transported to jail.

AUGUST 3

12:24 p.m. A Seattle driver attempted to pull a U turn on Wing Point Way without signaling and was struck by a bicyclist. The bicyclist was not injured and rode away from the scene. The driver was cited for failing to yield right of way.
