Applications for the Bainbridge Island Park Foundation’s 2016 Community Grants Program are now available and open to anyone who wants to undertake projects to improve island parks, trails and recreational opportunities.

Grants help to fund capital projects that align with the park foundation’s mission.

Past Community Grant projects include funding for Owen’s Playground, trail construction on public farmland, Schel Chelb Playround, a new kiln at Eagledale Park, aquatic center lane lines, a timing system for swim meets and supplies for the StoryShare program at the senior center.

Program information and the application are available at www.biparksfoundation.org. The application deadline is Saturday, Oct. 15.

The Bainbridge Island Parks Foundation is a nonprofit organization that has been quietly awarding grants for small parks-related capital projects for more than 15 years. An expanded board and first-time staff are now increasing the role of the nonprofit, actively lining up projects to improve our parks and a connective network of island trails. The parks foundation has served as fiscal sponsor for community initiatives such as the Yeomalt Cabin restoration, the aquatic center steam room and most recently for Owen’s Playground.
