Bainbridge Island briefs

Travel delays

People traveling on Highway 305 on Bainbridge Island should plan extra time on weekdays and weeknights starting April 21.

Expect up to 15-minute delays due to intermittent shoulder and single-lane closures with traffic in each direction alternating, a state Department of Transportation news release states. Closures will happen at various times and locations on the highway between Sportsman Club Road and the ferry dock.

Weekday closure times and dates (9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily): April 21-24, April 28-May 1, May 5-8 and May 12-15.

Weeknight closure times and dates (7 p.m. to 7 a.m. nightly): April 21- 25 and April 28-May 2.

During the closures, WSDOT crews will drill into the ground to collect soil samples. This is for the design of the Bainbridge terminal electrification project. Construction is planned to start in 2027. When built, the project will install charging equipment for vessels at the terminal and add underground conduits and cables to bring additional electricity to the terminal.
