Pickup alternative
Sakai Intermediate School is working with the city of Bainbridge Island and Island Church to provide a safe pickup spot for students.
Soon, there will be a coned-off path along Sportsman Club Road from Sakai to Island Church. There already is a crossing guard there. It will be an alternative to waiting in long pick-up lines that often form on campus.

BISD strong
Three from Bainbridge High School who exemplify the district’s guiding principles of Strong Minds, Strong Hearts, Strong Community won BISD Strong Awards last week.
BHS teachers Megan Carson and Denise Briggs-Potter, and BHS student Joshua Hall were the winners. The nominator for Carson wrote, “Ms. Carson challenges students to think outside the box and encourages them to reach for the stars and share their passions. I couldn’t have made it through the last two years without her there to support me…”
A statement for Briggs Potter read, “During the (COVID-19) pandemic, Denise checked in on all her students and contacted the parents to see how our kids were doing with assignments and what kinds of things we could do to help our teens remain in healthy minds and spirits.” The nomination for Hall added, “Josh is always willing to help other students when they are stuck or have an idea that they are not quite sure how to create.”
Any student, staff or volunteer from the district’s seven schools and administrative office are eligible.

Correction
No city in Kitsap County mandates garbage and recycling collection, although it is an option. And, BI offers curbside service for compost. A Feb. 4 story was incorrect.
