Bainbridge Island briefs

Hwy 305/High School Road open house

The Washington State Department of Transportation is planning safety improvements at the intersection of Highway 305 and High School Road on Bainbridge Island.

To collect input about this work, WSDOT will host an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Feb. 11 at Woodward Middle School. There is no formal presentation. Attendees are welcome to drop by anytime during the event. Team members will be available to explain the design, answer questions and take comments.

WSDOT is in the pre-design phase of this project, which provides an opportunity for community input. WSDOT is looking at safety and Complete Streets improvements at the intersection. The improvements will make the intersection safer for those who walk, bike or roll, per a news release.

“The intersection at SR 305 and High School Road has a history of fatal and serious injury collisions that placed it on the state’s safety priority programming. WSDOT is planning to build a roundabout at this location to reduce serious crashes. This is consistent with other improvements along the SR 305 corridor,” the release says.

Eagle Harbor/Wyatt Way work

The city is working with the contractor to prioritize northbound traffic during the morning commute. Beginning Feb. 9 through early March, 24-hour one-lane traffic will be in place with a temporary signal at the Head of the Bay. This configuration is necessary to allow space for concrete form placement and curing. The overall project remains on track for completion in late spring, per a COBI newsletter.

Work on the Eagle Harbor/Wyatt Non-Motorized Project is ongoing, and the last construction elements of the Eagle Harbor Fish Passage Project at Cooper Creek are wrapping up soon.

Visually Impaired Persons meeting

The Bainbridge Island Visually Impaired Persons Support Group will hold a meeting Feb. 11 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art.

After the meeting, a BIMA docent will help explore highlights from the current exhibitions at the museum, including the rare opportunity to touch pieces of tactile art, a news release says.
