Bainbridge Island briefs

BIPD reaccredited

The Bainbridge Island Police Department has been officially reaccredited by the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs, per a city news release.

Chief Joe Clark and deputy chief Scott Weiss accepted the award last week at the Association’s annual fall conference.

Accreditation requires agencies to meet rigorous standards in areas such as use of force, training, records management, staffing, fiscal accountability, public safety practices, and more, and must be renewed every four years following a comprehensive review and onsite evaluation.

Water tank work

Paving took place last week on Madison Avenue and Foster Road following the installation of the Pressure Reducing Valve (PRV) vaults.

Both lanes have reopened on Madison Ave. from Highway 305 to Yaquina Road. Foster Road paving was expected to continue this week, weather permitting.

“These improvements are part of the city’s ongoing effort to strengthen the Winslow Water System, enhancing reliability, water quality, and fire flow as we prepare to bring the new, seismically resilient Winslow Water Tank online in early 2026,” per a news release.

BI native’s new album

Bainbridge Island native Wes Corbett recently released his new album Drift and will be holding performances Dec. 5 and 6 with fellow BI native Simon Chrisman at Bainbridge Performing Arts’ Frank Buxton Auditorium. Performances both days will be at 7:30 p.m.

Jazz concerts

Local band Ranger and the ‘Re-Arrangers’ will be performing their “Django Bells” Jazzy Holiday concerts in December, including stops in Kingston and Bainbridge Island.

The BI concert is Dec. 27 from 7-9 p.m. at Bainbridge Cinemas (tickets will be posted soon at rangerswings.com/calendar) and the Kingston concert is Dec. 28 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Cellar Cat Jazz Club (tickets at cellarcat.com/live-music.html).

“Over the years, we’ve developed a small repertoire of jazzy holiday tunes—we really enjoy playing them, and there’s only a short season when we get to break them out! We’ll play a mix of our regular repertoire and those “Re-Arranged” holiday classics. To give an example—one audience favorite is our minor-key, tango version of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” a news release says.
