Water tank improvements

Last week, the contractor successfully bored a 210-foot path about eight feet below Highway 305 at Madison Avenue and installed a 20-inch steel casing beneath the highway. New pipe was also installed along Madison Avenue from Yaquina toward 305.

This week, work continued as the team extended the casing and began installing the new water main. A new water main will also begin installation at Fletcher Bay and Foster, per a city news release.

Candidate forums

The Bainbridge Island Senior & Community Center invites you to participate in this year’s City Council candidates forum, hosted by the center. It will be held Oct. 19 from 2-4 p.m. It will also be streamed live on https://youtube.com/biseniorcenter.

The forum will be an opportunity for the community to meet the candidates running for the three council seats, and to understand their qualifications and priorities for the city. It will also provide an opportunity for those attending to express their views and to ask the candidates questions.

Día de los Muertos

The Bainbridge Island Museum of Art invites you to its Día de los Muertos festivities Nov. 1, celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month and the richness of Latin and Hispanic cultures.

Start the day with a butterfly procession of kids and wander through a museum alive with music, a colorful ofrenda (altar), and artwork honoring the people we’ve loved and lost, a BIMA news release says. This year’s expanded exhibition combines traditional Día de los Muertos themes and broader contemporary works by Latine and Hispanic artists.

The celebration includes two ceremonies at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. — free to attend, but registration is required at biartmuseum.org/events/dia-de-los-muertos-2025/

The Día de los Muertos exhibition is on view through Nov. 16.

This special event also marks the public debut of Storytime With Mare—a film of autobiographical stories that have shaped Mare’s creative journey, produced by Trial and Error Productions, per a BIMA news release.

An audience Q&A and reception follow the event. Cost is $12.98 for members and $15.23 for non-members (after fees & tax).
