The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market was ranked number 62 on the list of the top 101 farmers markets in the United States by The Daily Meal, a website reporting on “all things food and drink.”

Perhaps predictably, Pike Place Market was ranked number one.

The Daily Meal reports that they ranked each market in three categories: “What’s at the Market?”, considering the quality, number and variety of products sold; “Street Credibility,” what the locals think of the market; and “When it’s open,” which is how often the market is actually open for business.

From The Daily Meal article: “Farmers markets are a place where the community comes together to support each other and the sustainable practices farmers use to produce. Farmers are the backbones of our food supply, and we love meeting and getting to know the people who grow what we eat at our local farmers’ market.”

Along with Pike Place, also in the ranking was the Tacoma Farmers Market (10th), Vancouver Farmers Market (19th), Jefferson County Farmers Market (47th), Port Orchard Farmers Market (63rd), Olympia Farmers Market (71), the Bayview Farmers Market on Whidbey Island (84th) and the Sequim Open Aire Market (89th).

The Bainbridge Island Farmers Market runs from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 13 to Nov. 16 in the town square at city hall every Saturday.
