A recent study conducted by Jonathan Todd, a writer for the popular finance website “NerdWallet,” found that Bainbridge Island is among the top 10 healthiest places to live in Washington.
A total of 142 locations were surveyed.
Factors such as proportion of non-car commuters, health insurance coverage, hospital survey rankings, number of parks, and number of McDonald’s locations were taken into account.
In addition to these contributing factors, aspects such as Bainbridge’s popular farmers market, local agriculture, use of public transportation, and overall pleasing environment pushed Bainbridge Island to the No. 5 spot.
Analysis was also conducted on the Census, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Medicare, OpenStreetMap and AggData statistics.
Todd described Washington as being an overall healthy state with the Puget Sound region providing public transit, walking and biking opportunities and some of the best locations for recreational activities.
Todd also emphasized the fact that, in Washington, there is an average of 11.5 parks per 10,000 residents.
Vashon, Pullman, Union Hill-Novelty Hill, and Seattle beat Bainbridge for the first four top spots.
Bremerton, Poulsbo and Gig Harbor also made the list.
