The Bainbridge Island City Council will discuss off-leash dog requirements on public property at this week’s meeting.

The discussion will follow a community meeting on the development of the Vincent Road landfill property, which will be held two hours before the council session.

Debate over the Vincent Road property has played tug-of-war on whether the former landfill site should be turned into an off-leash dog park.

At Wednesday’s council meeting, council members will discuss a draft ordinance about animals on public property and the rules for off-leash dog areas.

Prior to this week, representatives with the city and the Bainbridge Island Metropolitan Park & Recreation District have met to consider a potential dog park on city property.

A council ad hoc committee consisting of Councilwoman Anne Blair, Councilwoman Sarah Blossom and Councilman Dave Ward has been put together to examine the possibilities.

The city council meets at 7 p.m. every Wednesday at City Hall.

The council will talk about the draft ordinance relating to animals at 9:25 p.m., during the “council discussion” portion of the agenda.
