The Bainbridge Island City Council will consider appointing 18 Bainbridge teens to the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council.
The youth council will advise and make recommendations to the Bainbridge mayor on local government issues pertaining to teens and young people.
It also serves as a direct link between Bainbridge’s youth and the city of Bainbridge Island while also allowing Bainbridge and Eagle Harbor high school students a direct role in shaping city policies.
“The idea is we’ll meet quarterly and talk about issues on the agenda and get a youth perspective,” Mayor Anne Blair told the Review.
The council has also talked about having a council meeting at the high school.
A subcommittee made up of Blair, Councilman Roger Townsend and Councilman Dave Ward reviewed the applications and recommended 18 students to the group. Students needed a teacher’s recommendation to be considered for the appointment to the advisory council.
Bainbridge High School seniors Mikelle Ackerley, Nick Allen, Maxsena Butler, Savana Gordon, Margaret Hoberg, Kellie Miller, Ian O’Keefe, Richard Perry and Grayson Wildsmith are being considered for a one-year term expiring June 2016.
Bainbridge High School juniors Audrey Baker, Clair Branley, Jem Bullock, Faith Eckford-Prosser, Connor Lee, Nate Marx, Brian Messing, Amy Willerford and Zarye Wassne are being considered for two-year terms ending June 2017.
The council will vote on the recommended list of Mayor’s Youth Advisory Council appointments during the New Business portion of this week’s agenda.
The Bainbridge Island City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesdays in city hall.
